From Sal’s beginnings were always about placemats

I am going to chat about my Illustrated alphabet placemats :It is along time since I introduced myself : I am Sal, the creator, sold trader, illustrator print maker/painter of my company called FROM SAL which I set up 12 years ago .

We live in Oxfordshire but spent 8 years living abroad (Paris then a short spell in Istanbul) so I had to fall in love with my country again on my (reluctant) return.

I decided to complete an illustrated alphabet which I had started when our first baby was born – As Francesca and Rose’s mummies loved the mats I made for their babies, and it made me fall in love with glorious great outdoors Britain, all over again!

I choose the theme of animals having fun in the great outdoors – always with the idea of placemats in mind – here skiing, yachting…

Or just hanging out, as mice and mackerel under the mistletoe –so children get the idea that just hanging out with a friend is as important as all that sporty action! As is listening to birdsong!

The mats are the corner stone of my business, a great easy gift for a new born, whole family, engaged couple, even elderly couple! Customers report my designs bring a smile to the breakfast table… which must make a good start to the day. Made by a British firm in the UK, good solid stuff…

I have introduced some other letter designs over the years, but the originals always seem to do best – None of these can be personalised beyond what you see here. But these small beginnings have led to endless personalisation possibilities on paper… more of that to follow – hope you enjoy the placemats!
